The Cotton Gin quickly removed seeds from cotton. This was needed for the textile Industry. Before the Industrial Revolution people lived in the Cottage Industry. The cottage industry was an industry that consists of family members or individuals working from home to produce goods manually.
Before the Cotton Gin was invented, slaves had to separate the parts of cotton linen from the seeds of the cotton
plant by hand. It was a very tedieous job and took many slaves and an enormeous amount of time to complete this
task. With the invention of Whitney's Cotton Gin this all could now change.
